Has anyone took part - or know anyone who has - in this program before? Was considering it since it can be only 6 months, and have no time for a year abroad... also I can trust it more that smaller companies, since it's run by the government.

website: www.talk.go.kr

PS: Will have a teaching degree (although in another subject) by Dec.

(And please look at my profile before drawing any unnecessary conclusions...thanks)

If you have an accredited 4 year degree in teaching, I think you should also look at EPIK (English Program in Korea), which the official English teaching program in S Korea run by the ministry of education. I'm not sure if you need to be TESOL/TEFL certified, but I do know that it helps your candidacy significantly.

This is probably the most respected way to build up your credentials as a teacher in Korea since it's with public schools that have everything set by the government rather than a questionable contract with different organizations. It's also the best way to integrate yourself with the culture since private organizations tend to be made up of English speaking foreigners while teaching at a public school will guarantee you as one of the few foreigners in the school (if not the only one).

EDIT: After clicking on the link, I see that EPIK is mentioned in it. lol. So yea... it's a good program.

If you really only want 6 months then I say go for TALK. I am about to finish my 1 year contract soon. Its a very good program, but you are in the countryside, very countryside. The program is going through cuts, so if you have a year, than I think it will be best to go to Epik like tobybear recommended.

A quick update, I had my phone interview today, I think it went well. spoke with a "junior rep" online who highly recommended I switch the contract back to a year (the Director thought it was for a year over the phone) ... I also attend a partner university and could of done everything through them but had no idea...there is a better chance that through them I will get into the program, 6 months or not. I really only can go for 6 months...wish things were different...

Wow, this is INSANE. That was me, I waited till I graduated and went for a year working for GEPIK. I lived there and traveled a LOT. I changed a LOT too, I'm more skeptical and jaded, plus sarcastic...but I'm well-traveled and don't take anything for granted anymore. I couldn't get into my OLD friggin account, but I'm really a different person today. Although, I still find myself drinking a bottle and a half of wine and coming here, what...
